Roeline Burger is an instructor at SALT, and her journey to this role is fascinating. She originates from South Africa, where she spent the majority of her life before moving to Sweden in 2021. She now resides in Stockholm together with her son.

Before joining the team at SALT, Roeline had a thriving career as an entrepreneur in South Africa.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have had my own product manufacturing business. I sold my products through my e-commerce store and partnered with various boutique shops in South Africa.“, says Roeline.

Roeline’s journey into the world of coding began in 2015. Initially, she dabbled in HTML and CSS, and later, when she became a co-owner of a software development company in South Africa, she delved into JavaScript.

Shortly after her move to Sweden, Roeline decided to join SALT’s Career Program, in JavaScript/TypeScript. And she really enjoyed the journey!

“The campus atmosphere was fantastic! We squeezed a lot of practical learning into a short period. Seeing the final result of a full-stack application built in just two weeks, with something tangible to showcase, was truly amazing. Moreover, the SALT core team’s commitment to our success was great.”

The career program demands a lot from the developers, and Roeline was no exception. She also had the added challenge of balancing her responsibilities at home as a parent. However, she managed it well, driven by her strong “why” – a compelling reason that kept her focused and dedicated. This determination likely played a role in her being hired by Monitum as a Full-Stack Developer. And later on as an instructor at SALT.

“My journey has taken unexpected turns. While ambition has always driven me, discovering the vast opportunities for women in the tech industry has been a game-changer. This revelation fuels my persistence, providing the determination needed to keep moving forward.“, says Roeline.

Looking ahead, Roeline envisions herself stepping into the role of an Engineering Manager. She describes this role as the perfect intersection where technology merges with the dynamics of working with people, a blend that ignites her professional ambitions. In her own words:

“It’s that sweet spot that fuels my professional aspirations!”
